Room Arranger: Compact Room and Floor Plan Design

Room Arranger is a 3D room, apartment and floor planner from Jan Adamec. Its user interface is simple and the software is small in size, yet once the basics are understood, it can be used to design nearly any space or object. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and iPad.

Key Features

• LiDAR room scanning: On iPhone 12 Pro and later, iPhone 12 Pro Max and later, and compatible iPad Pro models, a room is scanned by walking around it. The result opens as a new project with walls, doors, windows and other wall openings. The app can also recognize cabinets, chairs, tables, sofas and some kitchen and bathroom equipment, and multiple rooms can be scanned at once.
• 3D visualization: Projects can be viewed in 3D, either by flying around the scene or walking through it. A single project can contain multiple floors. The software uses the X3D standard, which allows interactive 3D scenes to be placed on the web, and movies can also be created.
• Object library: The standard library contains nearly 300 furniture and equipment objects, and the dimensions of each can be set precisely. Users can create their own objects and import 3D models from other sources. An online object library and a gallery of user projects are also available.
• Floor plan images: An image or photo of a floor plan can be loaded into the Wall Editor, calibrated, and used as a base for drawing walls, which reduces the time needed for apartment and house layouts.
• Measurement: A measurement tool shows dimensions and checks whether enough space remains for other objects. The software also calculates room areas and wall areas, which can be copied and pasted into Excel.
• Printing to scale: Projects can be printed at exact scales such as 1:50 or 1:100. On a small A4 printer, a project is split across several pages that are then glued together.
• Additional features: Each wall and floor can have its own color or material. Baseboards, crown moldings, doorframes and picture frames are configurable. Objects snap to nearby walls when moved with the mouse, and groups can be nested, with ungrouping optionally protected by a password.

Usability and Practical Applications

The interface is straightforward, and the program suits interior arrangement, garden architecture, housing development where houses are treated as objects, and web design. Typical workflows include arranging furniture, checking clearances, and producing scaled printouts or 3D walkthroughs for clients and builders.

Platforms and Licensing

• Desktop: Builds are available for Windows 64-bit, Windows on ARM, macOS, and Linux 64-bit as an AppImage or tar.gz archive. Windows and Linux require Windows 10 or 11 and a Linux system, while macOS requires version 13 or later. Desktop versions are free for 30 days, and updates are free.
• iPad: The app is free to download. Saving projects is disabled in the free version and can be unlocked through an in-app purchase. Projects can be moved between devices via Dropbox and iCloud Drive.
• Framework: Room Arranger uses the Qt framework under the LGPLv3 license.

Languages

The software is translated into 48 languages. Contributions from translators are welcome, including taking over existing translations.
